A former convict and triggerman in a Jasper County murder-for-hire scheme was convicted Wednesday of shooting and killing Terrance Johnson in 2014, according to the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Thomas Heyward’s baseball team earned a No. 4 seed in SCISA’s Class AA state playoffs. Inclement weather postponed the team’s playoff game Monday. The Rebels were set to visit Robert E. Lee, the lower bracket’s top seed, on Tuesday and host R.E. Lee at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the best-of-three series. Game 3 is Thursday, May 4 at R.E. Lee, if necessary.

Kids enjoy youth fishing rodeo

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Blue Heron Nature Center in Ridgeland hosted a youth fishing rodeo for kids 15 years old and younger Saturday. The event drew about 100 children, said First Sgt. Earl Pope, a SCDNR officer in Jasper County.

Thomas Heyward competed in a South Carolina Youth Shooting Foundation state championship Saturday at Back Woods Quail Club in Georgetown.
