Busy week ahead for Blue Heron Nature Center
The Blue Heron Nature Center in Ridgeland is ready for a busy week. Here’s a look at the events.
Earth Day: At 10 a.m. Thursday, April 27, the annual Earth Day event kicks off at the Pavilion at the Nature Trail. The “Litter Trashes Everyone” puppet show is presented for first- and second-graders. Expect 450-500 kids.
Canoe Dedication: At 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, the Wallace Roberts family and Travis Amason (grandson) are dedicating a 1700s canoe that was found in the Savannah River and presented to the Blue Heron Nature Center. DNA analysis was completed on the vessel to determine its origin.
Youth Fishing Rodeo: Children enjoy the outdoors at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Nature Trail Pond. More than 300 kids are expected. Sponsored by the Blue Heron Nature Center and Department of Natural Resources.
Enjoy bluegrass music: On Wednesday, April 26, from 6 to 9 p.m., the town of Ridgeland will feature the Blue Stone Ramblers in concert at the nature trail’s new amphitheater. Free.
