Sheriff’s Office K-9 dies
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said its K-9 Doki died today.
Doki was in the K-9 vehicle that experienced a “malfunction causing the temperature to rise to an unsafe level,” the JCSO said.
The dog was immediately rushed to a veterinary hospital, but died later from heat exhaustion.
Doki was a 2-year old Belgium Malinois that had served with the Sheriff’s Office for just over a year.
“It’s an unfortunate thing that happened. We had a malfunction and all we can do is learn from it,” said Sheriff Chris Malphrus. “We are trying to be as transparent as we can to make the public aware of what’s going on. We recognize the problem, we will fix it and keep moving forward.”
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said it is “deeply saddened by this loss and asks for prayers for K-9 Doki’s handler.”
