Sheriff's Office probes Friday homicide

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the second homicide this week.

According to Sheriff Chris Malphrus, at 5:30 a.m. Friday, the JCSO was called to the intersection of Rose Mary Road and Point South Drive where a truck was in a ditch.  The body of the driver was slumped over the steering wheel, Malphrus said.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Darrell Hamilton of Mackay Point Road, was found dead from a gunshot wound.

Malphrus said the Sheriff’s Office has persons of interest.

This is the fourth homicide in 2017.

On Tuesday 40-year-old Jamol Horton was shot in the Wagon Branch area and died at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. The Sheriff's Office said it is following a lead.
