Plan to attend county’s comp plan meetings

Jasper County is launching “Jasper’s Journey: Our Next 20 Years.”

The initiative will develop a comprehensive master plan to guide growth and development for the community, the county said.

6 p.m. community meetings are scheduled for: Tuesday, Sept. 19, Blue Heron Nature Park, 321 Bailey Lane, Ridgeland.

Wednesday, Sept. 20, Sergeant Jasper Park, 1458 Red Dam Road, Hardeeville.

All are encouraged to attend. The meetings will include a brief presentation and various interactive activities. A series of community surveys will also be developed.

Members of the community may sign up to receive email updates at the county’s website, www.jaspercountysc.org.

The planning process is anticipated to take between 10 to 12 months and is led by Symbioscity, an urban planning firm based in Savannah, Ga.

“We are very excited that we are beginning the development of our new comprehensive master plan for Jasper County,” said Lisa Wagner, Director of Planning and Building Services for Jasper County. “With the pending development of the Jasper Port and growth anticipated in our area, it is critical that we can work together towards a common community vision.” A comprehensive plan is a long-range planning document that serves to provide a unified vision for the community and strategies to achieve this community vision.

The comprehensive plan includes an inventory of existing conditions; a statement of needs and goals, including a vision statement; and implementation strategies with time frames.
