Rules and regulations approved for Ridgeland farmers market
The Ridgeland Town Council unanimously approved the rules and regulations to use the town’s new farmer’s market during its Oct. 5 meeting, according to town of Ridgeland Administrator Dennis Averkin.
The rules and regulations are mandatory for all whole food/horticultural, value-added, nonprofit vendors and market day sponsors (participants), including their agents and employees.
The Town of Ridgeland administrator must approve every vendor, according to the newly approved rules.
All vendors are also required to obtain a town of Ridgeland business license before permission is permitted to become a vendor.
“There will be an opportunity for individuals to rent a space and have yard sales at the market, but they must also obtain a business license to participate,” Averkin said.
The scheduled market hours will be on Fridays from noon until 5 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. with the season for the market running from April to November. Some of the other rules include: A vendor may set up at 11 a.m. on Fridays and 7 a.m. on Saturdays. All participants are to unload supplies and move vehicles out of the market area before noon on Fridays and before 8 a.m. on Saturdays. Those arriving later than these hours must hand carry in supplies from outside the Market area.
The town administrator (or his designee) will assign the participant their space locations. Those who participated in the Market the previous year will have priority over new Participants.
According to the new rules, growers are always given priority over other Participants (i.e., non-growers).
Fees were also approved during the meeting, Averkin said. Fees shall be collected by the town administrator (or his designee) at the start of each market. Any vendor who cannot pay the fee at the start of the market will be required to remove their merchandise immediately.
The following is a breakdown of the fees:
Value-added food vendors: $20 per market ($2o per each additional space)
Handmade craft vendors: $10 per market ($20 per each additional space)
Market day business Sponsors: $50 per market ($40 per each additional space)
*Vendors may promote their businesses by collecting contact information and/or distributing brochures, coupons, etc. However, no business transactions may take place.
