Three suspects face charges in Georgia and Jasper County in connection to an alleged car theft at Mike Reichenbach Chevrolet, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said.

At 1:15 a.m. Sunday, deputies received a call about an alarm at Mike Reichenbach Chevrolet in Okatie. Upon arrival, a deputy found the business broken into and saw a man attempting to steal a car from the parking lot, Sheriff Chris Malphrus said.

When the suspect saw the deputy, he ran across U.S. 278 into the Walmart parking lot and got into a white Mercedes SUV. Deputies chased the vehicle into Georgia on Interstate 95. Once in Georgia, Georgia officers deployed stop sticks (tire flattening devices) that caused the Mercedes to stop, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Three suspects were apprehended.

During the investigation, cops learned that the Mercedes was stolen from the car dealership.

Surveillance video showed as many as eight suspects entered the business and attempted to steal multiple vehicles, but were thwarted by law enforcement’s quick response, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Malphrus hopes evidence collected on scene helps identify the other suspects.

Three suspects — Nayquan McFarlin of Savannah, Lonzell Chisolm of Savannah and Jamie Ellis of Savannah — face charges in Georgia and will be extradited to Jasper County to face burglary and vehicle theft charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Malphrus thanks the Hardeeville Police Department for its assistance.
