Player diary: Step of Faith’s Polk learns life skills on basketball court
Charity Nicole Polk is a senior on Step of Faith Christian Academy’s girls basketball team. She shares her thoughts on the Lady Chargers’ season:
When I joined the team my sophomore year, I didn’t know how to play, how to shoot, and didn’t know what position I would be good in.
I’ve definitely worked my way to my position that I’m in now. Playing on a sports team has taught me a few things like teamwork, communication skills, and learning that winning isn’t always the most important thing.
This season is the first time we played basketball in the new gym. In the beginning, we played and practiced basketball on a blacktop outside and now we are blessed to have the brand new gym with air conditioning to play on.
This season has been really good, there have been lots of improvements with the junior varsity and varsity team. The other seniors on my team are Haley Cribbs and Brittani Brown. Our coaches are Steve Higgins and Mitzi Cramer. Mrs. Cramer has been sick for a while and with her being my coach, she taught me to be strong in any situation.
In my opinion, this year has been the best year for girls basketball since it started four years ago.
This year we reached the second highest amount of points put on a scoreboard by Step of Faith. I am looking forward to coming back and watching home games and watching the girls grow in skill and grow in faith.
