5th person dies from injuries following Hurricane Irma

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Public safety officials in South Carolina say a fifth person has died from injuries suffered during Hurricane Irma.

Hardeeville cops investigate credit card skimmers found at Exit 8 gas station

Two suspects were arrested in connection with credit card skimming incidents that occurred in Hardeeville on Sept. 28, according to officials. The Yemassee Police Department, the Hardeeville Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continue to investigate.

Chamber of Commerce celebrates the county

It was a celebration of the county Tuesday night as the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce held Jasper on the Move and its 58th awards banquet at Turkey Hill Plantation in Ridgeland. The chamber presented nine awards to individuals and businesses. The Lavon Stevens Band performed.

New charter school picks developer for Ridgeland site

The newest charter school in Jasper County continues to move forward as Polaris Tech Charter School has selected True North Companies to develop its Ridgeland site, a news release said.

NCAA assistant coaches among 10 accused of fraud, corruption

NEW YORK (AP) — Four assistant basketball coaches from Arizona, Auburn, the University of Southern California and Oklahoma State were among those arrested on federal corruption charges Tuesday after they were caught taking thousands of dollars in bribes to steer NBA-destined college stars toward certain sports agents and financial advisers, authorities said.
