The South Carolina Legislators proposal to draw new district lines for the Jasper County School Board seats will place Mr. Randy Horton and me in the same district. Because of this, Mr. Randy Horton and I will be running for the same school board seat in the 2012 election. Mr. Horton obviously has drawn the line in the sand and started his campaign tactics early.
It is also obvious that Mr. Horton does not trust that the voters of our district can make decisions based on our merits and leadership abilities. Mr. Horton feels the need to discredit me and my campaign by attacking my husband, James Gardner, Director of Athletics and former school board member. He continues with attempts to defame Mr. Gardner's character in order to discredit me and my campaign.
Just to name a few of his tactics, (I will not speak of the attacks that have not been published):
1. July 13, 2011 - Jasper County Sun, "Horton Files Police Report":
After the meeting, Horton approached Gardner and stood still with his hands at his sides, (where were Mr. Gardner's hands?) That article stated what Mr. Horton stated but, reported no remarks, comments or rebuttal from Mr. Gardner.
2. June 28, 2011 00:47---Ridgeland Police Department Summary:
Horton stated that Gardner began to "go off" and that people were holding him back so that he would not approach him. Horton also stated that he was advised and encouraged to leave so that Gardner would calm down. Again, no remarks, comments, rebuttal or comments from Mr. Gardner and no investigation by the Ridgeland Police Department.
3. June 28, 2011---Jasper County Sun, "Amid heated debate, school board OKs budget":
"I have a problem with Mrs. Gardner voting when her husband is a part of the budget, because I feel that this position is one of those that should be eliminated," Horton said, referring to board member Cathy Gardner's husband, James, who is the district athletics director.
I did not break any law when I voted.
4. September 28, 2011---Horton Denied FOI Request:
Again, another attempted attack of my husband, James Gardner. Mr. Gardner as a former board member over spent on the district's credit card during a series of school board trainings by a total of $600. All board members knew of Mr. Gardner's overspending. The $600 was paid back by Mr. Gardner as mandated.
Mr. Horton's tactics to discredit me and my campaign will be determined by the voters at the ballot box in 2012 and not by his constant attacks of my husband.
