Softball: Rebels win once at SCISA tournament
Thomas Heyward's softball team went 1-2 this weekend in Sumter at SCISA's preseason tournament.
In Game 1, the Rebels beat Pee Dee 1-0. Bayli Belger led off the game by getting hit by a pitch. She stole second and scored on Ivy Bryan's single.
Pitcher Cheyenne Strong took care of the rest as she tossed the shutout by striking out 10 and allowing two hits and two walks.
In Game 2, Thomas Heyward lost 4-0 to Marlboro Academy. The Rebels were held to one hit and struck out nine times.
Marlboro scored in the first inning after consecutive errors. Bryan was 1 for 2.
Strong allowed one earned run on four hits. She struck out three and walked two.
THA's tournament ended with a 2-1 loss to Pee Dee in an elimination game.
THA (7-6) had seven hits, but couldn't put together a big inning and left seven runners on base.
Bryan had a single and an RBI double.
"We knew we were going to see good teams," coach Bob Layman said. "We know where we need the work. This is a great bunch of young ladies that want to get better."
