Notebook: Jaguars baseball wins first two; SFCA earns baseball, soccer wins

Led by Kam Waddy’s 7-for-7 start, Ridgeland-Hardeeville’s baseball team began the season 2-0.

The Jaguars beat Allendale-Fairfax 17-1 in three innings Feb. 28. Waddy had three hits, three runs and two RBI. Freshman Ty’Quan Jenkins was 2 for 3 with three RBI.

RHHS beat Legacy Christian Academy 20-1.

Waddy, a senior, had hits in all of his seven at-bats in the two games.

“He will lead the team this year and hope to send us to our first playoff game,” coach James McNeal said.

McNeal is excited about the potential of sophomore Allen Delouche and juniors Stephan Fuller and Derald Nelson.

The Jaguars also field a junior varsity team with 13 players.

Step of Faith wins in baseball, soccer

Step of Faith began its baseball season March 7 with an 8-7 win over North Walterboro Christian.

The Chargers are led by five seniors: pitcher Hunter Wilcox; catcher Isiac Huskey; center fielder Kaleb Hall; and second baseman Hunter Holmes; and third baseman Brandon Davis, a first-year player.

The girls soccer team started the season March 9 with a 3-2 win over conference rival Grace Christian. Gabi Pollen, Brittani Brown and Olivia Broschard scored for the Lady Chargers, who received support from senior Elizabeth Broxton. The team is coached by Steve Higgins.

THA’s baseball team beats Bethesda 22-0

Thomas Heyward’s baseball team rebounded from its first loss by beating host Bethesda, 22-0. THA (which began the week 5-1) scored 17 runs in the first inning.

The Rebels were led by Devin Scott’s two hits and three RBI and Spencer Hexamer’s three RBI.

THA had 14 players score runs, including Bret Mixson, Timber Hexamer and Chipper Hammond, who each scored three runs. Also scoring were: Louie Smith, Justin Davis, Andrew Boyles, Paul Murdaugh, Dalton Steedley, Evan Brazil, Bryce Tillotson, Zach Bond, Blake Bannon, Scott and Spencer Hexamer.

THA was 11 for 11 in steals. Boyles had two steals.

The Rebels lost 13-11 to Patrick Henry on March 7. Timber Hexamer and Spencer Hexamer each had two hits. Spencer Hexamer scored four runs and had three steals and Timber Hexamer had two RBI. Bannon was 1 for 3 with three runs scored and four steals.

John Paul gets a win in soccer

Sebastian Laverde had a goal and two assists and Karl Johnson added a goal and an assist to lead John Paul II’s boys soccer team to a 5-0 win over St. Andrew’s. Nyleem Wright made nine saves.
