Notebook: SFCA charges to 6 wins; THA gets back to the field

Step of Faith’s baseball team began the week 6-3. The Chargers had a big win April 11 as the they beat Victory Christian 23-0 in three innings. Isiac Huskey had two grand slams and nine RBI.

He was also the winning pitcher. Hunter Wilcox was the catcher.

The Chargers lost 10-0 to Emmanuel Christian last Thursday.

SFCA’s girls soccer team is 3-4.

THA back in action

Thomas Heyward’s baseball and softball teams returned to the field this week after Easter break. The baseball team began the week 9-7 and on a four-game losing streak. Its slim SCISA Class AA playoff hopes are still alive, but THA will likley have to win each game to qualify for the postseason.

The Rebels were set to host Hilton Head Prep late Tuesday. They host Colleton Prep on Thursday, Dorchester on Monday and St. Andrew’s on April 27.

Senior Blake Bannon thinks the team is ready for a strong finish.

“I think the team has confidence,” he said.

Late Tuesday, Thomas Heyward’s softball team was scheduled to host The King’s (Tenn.) Academy (at University of South Carolina Beaufort). The Rebels are at Beaufort on Wednesday and visit Colleton Prep on Thursday. THA hosts Beaufort Monday.

John Paul II soccer improves to 10-6

John Paul II’s soccer team headed into its Easter break on a high note after the Golden Warriors beat Calhoun 10-0 last Thursday. Elijah Moreno scored three goals and Sebastian Laverde had three assists. Goaltenders Nyleem Wright and Jonatha Barragan combined on the shutout.

John Paul II (10-6) returns to action April 27 at Coastal Christian Prep. Moreno leads the team with 24 goals. Laverde has 12 goals and a team-high 14 assists and Karl Johnson has 10 goals.

Both are Jasper County residents.

Legacy Christian 5K

Legacy Christian is hosting a 5K event April 22 at Hilton Head Lakes in Hardeeville. Registration is 8 a.m.; the race starts at 9 a.m.

Justin Baker 5K set

The Justin Baker 5K run and walk is 8:30 a.m., May 13 at Mackay Point Plantation in Yemassee.

The event benefits the Justin Baker Field and Scholarship Fund. Entry fee is $25 if received by April 21; $30 by May 12; and $35 the day of the race.
