Thomas Heyward girls basketball coaches Chris Tillotson and Roy Pryor hosted a basketball camp this week that featured about 40 second- to 12th-graders.

Pryor said he was pleased with the turnout and the chance for the younger kids to learn from the older players. Pryor, who is an assistant varsity girls coach, said the B-team, JV and varsity players worked on the fundamentals.

He expects those girls teams to each have 12-player rosters during the basketball season.

“We’ve been working on shooting, dribbling and passing,” Pryor said.

Pryor said the camp, which has been held for the last several years, was one of the most successful.

“It’s probably the best crowd of kids we’ve had overall,” he said. “We are excited about the sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders, our next really good class is going to be seventh and eight-graders. They are picking up the system. The little ones learn from the JV and the JV learns from the varsity.”
