The second-ranked team in the state looked like Class AAA title contenders Friday night as Ridgeland-Hardeeville High’s boys beat visiting Battery Creek 69-34 in a SCHSL Region 8-AAA contest.

The Jaguars (13-0, 2-0 region), ranked No. 2 in the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association poll, ran away from Battery Creek (5-11, 0-2) during a 29-5 run that spanned the first and second quarters.

RHHS led 36-17 at halftime and after Battery Creek scored the second half’s first points to cut the lead to 36-20, RHHS rolled to a 15-0 run that extended the advantage to 51-20.

Rashamel Butler led the Jaguars with 15 points and Diamonte Robinson and Jabari Williams each had 12 points.

RHHS continued its home dominance. The team is 35-2 at home since the start of the 2014-15 season.

The Jaguars visit Estill Saturday and host region foe Wade Hampton Tuesday.

RHHS GIRLS WIN

RHHS’s girls, ranked No. 7 in the state, beat second-ranked Battery Creek 46-34. The Jaguars (7-2, 2-0 region) were challenged in the second half as Battery Creek cut the Jaguars’ 19-13 halftime lead to 21-19 early in the third.

But Kendalyesha Washington’s score gave RHHS a 23-19 lead. Washington made two other key baskets later in the quarter to hold off Battery Creek, including a layup off a pass from Que Drayton that gave RHHS a 28-24 lead with 1:41 to go in the third.

RHHS led 30-26 after three quarters and pulled away early in the fourth. Drayton drove for a layup and a 32-26 advantage, part of a 7-2 run that gave the Jaguars a 37-28 lead midway through the fourth.
